BENTON — We now know who is running for mayor and for the four seats on the Benton City Council in the April 2 Consolidated Election.

For mayor, incumbent Fred Kondritz will be seeking a second term. He will face challenger Roy Simpkins. City Clerk Brook Craig tells us Simpkins is employed as a janitor at Rend Lake College and works as a deejay under the name “Rockin’ Roy.”

Incumbent Don Storey will be joined by Tom Carter, Cathy Ann Garavalia, Lee Messersmith, John D. Mohr, Ian Zane Perkins, Chris Sawyer, Albert Smith and Brandon Overton for the four seats on the city council.

Storey serves as Public Safety Commissioner and will be seeking his first full term. He was appointed by the council after David Moore resigned shortly after being elected in 2015.

Councilmen Dennis Miller, Ronnie Baumgarte and Don Wyant are not seeking re-election.

A lottery will be held Friday morning at 10 at City Hall to determine ballot positions.
