MARION COUNTY — A 58-year-old Kinmundy man who was convicted in 2015 of animal cruelty in connection with dragging a horse behind his truck has been cited in Marion County court this week with multiple pet owner violations just months after completing probation that had prohibited from owning or possessing any animals.

Ordinance violations were filed Monday against Rodney Hassebrock for failure to license a dog with the county, failure to inoculate a pet, failure to microchip, and for having a dog at large.

In his October 2015 plea agreement, Hassebrock was ordered to not own, possess or care for any animal, and to have no contact with the horse “Doc” during his 30 months of probation.

Hassebrock admitted in that case to tying Doc to the back of his truck and then dragging the horse behind the vehicle, causing the animal serious injuries and leaving a trail of blood in his wake.

According to Marion County State’s Attorney Bill Milner, the prohibition of Hassebrock owning or possessing pets was restricted to his 30-months term of probation.
