FARINA — An armed bank robbery Friday afternoon in Farina has resulted in one man being held as a person of interest.

According to the FBI, the robbery of Midland States Bank in Farina was reported at 2:27 p.m. Friday afternoon and a person of interest was taken into custody a short time later.

61 year old Kenneth W. Rose of Effingham is being held in the Fayette County Jail, and is expected to be picked up by federal authorities today in connection with the bank robbery.

FBI Spokesman Brad Ware says the man entered the bank alone, displayed what appeared to be a black handgun, and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man fled the scene in a black Chevy S-10 pickup truck headed towards Interstate 57. The truck was stopped later in Farina and was taken into custody without further incident.

Initial reports indicated two men were involved, but Ware says they believe just one person committed the holdup.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, State Police and Fayette County Sheriff’s Department are all assisting in the investigation.
