MARION COUNTY — A 77-year-old rural Salem man was formally charged Monday in Marion County court with Class X felony aggravated battery through the discharge of a firearm in connection with the alleged shooting last week of a relative initially reported to be his grandson but court records now indicate may have been his adopted son.

Stacy Dean Milburn is in the Marion County Jail where he has been held since last Thursday after he allegedly fired approximately six shots at a 19-year-old relative Devon Milburn, outside his home on Scout Road.

The younger Milburn was reportedly struck by three of the six shots, one in his neck, one in the abdomen, and another to his arm. None are believed to be life-threatening.

Devon Milburn was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment and was later transported by ambulance to a St. Louis area hospital.

The two had reportedly had an argument before the alleged shooting incident about the elder MIlburn not wanting the younger one to take his truck.

Bail and a preliminary hearing remain to be set in the case.
