FAYETTE COUNTY — A 27-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced Wednesday in Fayette County court to 4-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault.

Hunter Haas was already a registered sex offender when he was arrested in October on a Fayette County warrant accusing him of Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault with the use of force. Bail at that time was set at $50,000 and Haas has remained in jail since that time.

In addition to the 4-year prison sentence, Haas will have to sere 3-years to life of mandatory supervised release following his prison term.

Per the plea agreement, two Class 3 felony charges of failing to update sex offender registry information and being a felon in possession of a firearm were dismissed, as well as a Class 4 felony charge of being a registered sex offender residing in a prohibited area.

Haas was originally convicted in 2011 in Kankakee County of criminal sexual abuse of a victim between 13 and 17 years old. He was sentenced to probation but was soon arrested and convicted of violating the terms of the sex offender registry by providing false information.
