Leaf Burning to be Allowed in Mt. Vernon Starting Monday

MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Kevin Sargent wants residents to know that city residents may burn their leaves starting Monday. The burn period will last until Sunday the 18th, and burns are permitted between sunrise and sunset each day.

Burns are not allowed on any public street, sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right of way or manhole cover, or on the property of another without written permission. All types of fires must be physically attended to by someone at least 18-years-old.

Burning may be restricted during this time by the Fire Chief’s order due to weather conditions or other factors.
