SALINE COUNTY — In Saline County today, election day will be over watched by officials from the state’s Attorney General’s office.

According to WSIL, investigators with the Illinois Attorney General’s office were called to the courthouse yesterday after concerns about the openness and transparency of the election could be at risk.

Saline County State’s Attorney Jayson Clark told WSIL that he received multiple complaints yesterday morning that County Clerk Kim Buchanan was not allowing poll watchers to oversee the processing of early voting results.

After initially addressing the issue himself, Clark said when he left yesterday that the poll watchers were again kicked out, accusing the Clerk of building a barricade between herself and the poll watchers.

That is when Clark called in the Attorney General’s office.  WSIL reports those investigators made Buchanan remove the barricade and allow poll watchers to observe.

Buchanan did not answer any questions asked by the WSIL reporter after the events of yesterday.

Clark says that officials with the Attorney General’s office will oversee the voting today to put any doubts of today’s election to rest.
