ILLINOIS (RFD) — With cooler temperatures in the forecast, a spokesman from Ameren Illinois says now is the time for you to take a look at your energy habits and identify areas where you could potentially save. Use adequate insulation in the attic, ceilings, walls, floors and crawlspaces. Seal air leaks with caulk and use weather stripping around exterior doors and windows. Installing a smart thermostat could help you save all year round. Ameren Illinois spokesman Brian Bretsch says you can take advantage of a $100 rebate on the cost of these devices.

Other tips include periodically replacing the air filters for heating systems, cleaning air vents regularly, and making sure drapes or furniture do not block any of the vents or returns.
