INA — A 43-year-old Mt. Vernon man was seriously injured when shortly before 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, he reportedly ran his motorcycle into the back of a van in rural Ina.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Luke Pedigo was following a van driven on Log Cabin Lane by 69-year-old Kerry Rainey of rural Belle Rive.

Pedigo apparently crashed his motorcycle into the back of Rainey’s van when didn’t notice as the van slowed to turn into a driveway.

Pedigo was taken to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon but was later airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment.

Rainey was not injured in the crash.

Jefferson Fire Protection District officials were called to assist the crash victim at the scene.  The crash occurred at 2:48 Saturday afternoon.
