SALINE COUNTY — Illinois State Police say alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash that happened shortly before 4 Sunday afternoon in Saline County.

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, 31-year-old William W. Wasson, Jr. of Harrisburg was driving north in his pickup truck on Route 34 one mile north of Harrisburg when for unknown reasons the truck ran off the roadway to the right. The truck then came back onto the roadway and crossed both lanes of Route 34. The truck ran off the west side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Wasson was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the truck.

Wasson was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. He was then transported by Air Evac to a regional hospital. He was pronounced dead later in the evening.
