Florine Heim

Florine Heim was born October 8, 1925 in West Frankfort, Illinois. She was the youngest daughter of Robert and Bessie Hughey. She was raised and schooled in the Mt. Vernon area and, because of her scholastic skills,Florine graduated a year early from Mt Vernon High School. During the second World War, Florine worked in San Diego as a “Rosie the Riveter” building air planes for the military. After the war, she moved to Decatur to find employment. Florine worked at the Signal Depot and, while roller skating one day at Danceland, she met and fell in love with Earl Hadden, Jr., who was also just recently home from the war. They were soon married and, eventually, moved to and lived in the rural Oakley area where they raised a son, Robert.

After her husband’s death in 1978, Florine went to work for Illinois Power Company until her retirement. There she met, and later married, Robert Heim and moved back to Decatur.

Florine was a devout Christian and taught Sunday school at Cerro Gordo Methodist Church for many years. After her move to Decatur, she became active and taught Sunday school at Concordia Lutheran Church. Florine was known for her love of children and she also grew beautiful flowers, especially gladiolas, which she shared with her church congregation every Sunday.

Florine was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and both husbands. She is survived by her son, Robert Hadden and his wife, Cynthia from Beulah, Wyoming and her grandson, Russell Hadden who lives in Spearfish, South Dakota. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Decatur, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Cubb Prairie Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois, five miles south of Mount Vernon.
