UNION COUNTY — Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds and Union County Sheriff Scott Harvel remind you to review the Illinois Sex Offender Registry when planning Halloween trick-or-treat routes.

Under Illinois law, most sex offenders are prohibited from participating in any Halloween activity involving children. This would include leaving a porch light on, answering the door or distributing candy during trick or treat hours.

There are currently 42 registered sex offenders living in Union County and parents may review the Illinois Sex Offender Register at http://www.isp.state.il.us/sor/.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a sex offender compliance check during Halloween trick-or-treat hours.
