MARION COUNTY — A 57-year-old Assumption, Illinois man has been sentenced in Marion County to probation after he pleaded guilty to possessing between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine.

Steven Selby, Sr., was charged in 2016 with Class X felony possession with the intent to deliver between 15 and 100 grams of meth and Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of meth.

He was sentenced Wednesday to four-years probation, three days in jail with credit for time served, ordered to undergo drug and alcohol evaluation and complete any treatment indicated, and abstain from drugs and alcohol with testing.

Selby was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine plus court costs, $1,200 probation service fee, and a $250 DNA fee.

A $5,000 cash bond posted shortly after Selby’s 2016 arrest will be applied to the $5,027 in fines and fees assessed.

Selby was arrested in August 2016 when he and two others were discovered doing drugs at the end of a driveway in rural Salem.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Selby, 47-year-old Barbara Helm on the same Class X and Class 1 charges as Selby, and 28-year-old Michael Whitaker for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Helm entered into a similar plea agreement in June.
