PERRY COUNTY — One person was injured in an alcohol-related crash early Friday morning in Perry County.

According to Illinois State Police, a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Charles Emiling of Pinckneyville was driving south of Tanglefoot Road, one mile north of Cudgetown Road, around 1 when the truck left the  roadway and overturned.

Emiling was not hurt in the crash. He was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and consumption of alcohol by a person under 21. One of the four passengers in his truck, 18-year-old Kayla Choate of Chester, was flown to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries. The other passengers – 20-year-old Mikayla Zlotnicki of Thebes, 19-year-old Adam Sanders of Du Quoin and 18-year-old Alexis Taylor of Murphysboro were not hurt. Taylor and Sanders were also charged with consumption of alcohol by a person under 21.

ISP says the cause of the crash was DUI and improper lane usage.
