MT. VERNON — One Mt. Vernon city council member is calling for the city and higher levels of government to see if there’s serious interest in building an overpass for Route 15 over the railroad tracks on the east side of the city. Councilman Jim Rippy says the city couldn’t build the overpasses alone, and he hopes the state and federal government can pitch in.

Rippy says the tracks create a divide for residents on the east side of Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis says his administration is looking into what can be done, but it has been an ongoing issue for decades.

There will be a public hearing to go over all of the current proposals for the east side by pass and other information related to any overpass construction on October 30 at Mt. Vernon City Hall.
