BENTON — Franklin County Circuit Clerk Jim Muir says Republican State Rep. Dave Severin of Benton did something in 2016 that hadn’t been done in decades in the 117th District – he took a seat away from Democrat House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Muir endorsed Severin for another term as 117th District State Representative during a press conference at the Franklin County Courthouse Thursday afternoon.

Severin says he and Muir have been friends for a long time and when they were both running for office two years ago, they weren’t running as politicians but as two southern Illinois guys who care about their community, southern Illinois and the state.

Severin, the incumbent, is being challenged by Democrat Jason Woolard of Carterville in the Nov. 6 election. Severin beat long-time State Rep. John Bradley of Marion for the seat in 2016.
