MT. VERNON — A 26-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail after Mt. Vernon police arrested him over the weekend on a weapons charge.
According to MVPD, officers responded Saturday to the 900 block of Conger for a report of a male subject armed with a handgun.
Officers began checking the area and made contact with Darius Gardet. Officers also located a loaded handgun in the area.
Following further investigation, Gardet was taken into custody on a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and taken to the Jefferson County Jail, with bail set at $20,000.
He was formally charged in Jefferson County court Monday with Class 4 felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
A first appearance and preliminary hearing is scheduled in the case for October 23, with Gardet’s court appointed attorney.
