FAYETTE COUNTY — A 17-year-old male pedestrian was injured Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on a country road in Fayette County.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. at 2150 East, about 1 mile north of St. Elmo.

Illinois State Police say the teen is from St. Elmo, and was walking southbound in the northbound lane on 2150 East.

A truck being driven by a 16-year-old male, also from St. Elmo, was traveling northbound and has just come over the crest of a hill.

The driver reportedly told ISP that he observed the pedestrian but was unable to stop to avoid the collision and struck the pedestrian with the front of his truck.

The pedestrian was then transported by Rural Med to St. Elmo High School, where he was then air lifted by Air Evac to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
