JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 40-year-old Christopher woman is back in the Jefferson County Jail after a jury found her guilty Wednesday of a 2016 fire set at a Mt. Vernon hotel.

Adriane Parke was originally charged with Class X felony aggravated arson knowing people present, Class 2 felony arson of property valued over $150, and Class 4 felony criminal damage to government property. The state had agreed to dismiss the two lesser charges and prosecute her only on the Class X felony.

Court records show Parke worked as a housekeeper at the Drury Inn during the time of the fire.Close to 60 guests and employees had to evacuate during the fire, but Parke was the only injury reported as she apparently suffered from smoke inhalation.

She was ultimately arrested on the charges in Franklin County before being transported to Jefferson County, where a few weeks later she posted $5,000 cash bond and was released.

Parke was returned to the Jefferson County Jail following the jury’s verdict Wednesday. Sentencing for Parke is scheduled for November 8. A Class X felony is punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison.
