MT. VERNON — A 19-year-old Mt. Vernon teen is in the Jefferson County Jail in connection with an incident Saturday in which he allegedly fired shots at a family member.

According to police, they responded at 12:23 p.m., Saturday to the 1000 block of South 21st Street in Mt. Vernon for a report of a family member taking a shot at another family member following a dispute. No one had any reports of injuries.

When officers arrived on scene the alleged offender, Elias Hernandez, had already left the scene.

While officers were speaking with the alleged victim, they observed Hernandez in the area, but when he noticed the officers he fled on foot and was able to avoid capture at that time.

Probable cause was developed to arrest Hernandez for aggravated assault and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Then around 5:21 p.m., Sunday, officers conducted a felony traffic stop on a vehicle in the 14000 block of Pump House Lane believed to be driven by Hernandez.

Hernandez complied with officer’s commands and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he’s being held on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
