MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon police arrested a 23-year-old Christopher man early Sunday morning after he reportedly pulled a handgun on officers following a DUI-related crash.

According to police, around 2:12 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a rollover crash in the 800 block of South 27th Street.

Officers were able to extract Christian Ziehm from the over turned vehicle. Ziehm was the only occupant of the vehicle and had left the roadway before striking a tree.

Once outside of the vehicle, officers observed Ziehm was under the influence of alcohol and an officer asked for his driver’s license.

Ziehm reportedly reached into his pocket and pulled out a handgun which was pointed in the direction of others as it was pulled out. The officer was in close proximity to Ziehm and was able to disarm him.

Officers were able to take Ziehm into custody without incident. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and driving under the influence.

He was additionally cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating uninsured vehicle.

No one was injured during this incident.
