MT. VERNON — A 22-year-old Mt. Vernon man was released Monday from the Jefferson County Jail after he posted nearly $15,000 cash bond in a case stemming from the daylight shooting last month of an individual on a Mt. Vernon street.

Alexsis James is charged with 19-year-old Isley Petties, and 19-year-old Roderick Burnett Jr. with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied structure in connection with that shooting.

Petties and James were also charged with Class 4 felony obstruction, while Burnett was charged with Class 3 felony possession of a firearm without a valid FOID.

The three men were arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of the shooting in a vehicle.

Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse notified the Mt Vernon Police Dispatch Center that he was following the vehicle suspected of the shooting.

Officials with the Mt Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police pursued the vehicle north on Interstate 57 to a rural area west of Dix where they arrested the defendants.

Bail for the three had been set at $150,000 each. Burnett’s bail has since been reduced to $100,000, but he and Petties remain in jail.
