SALEM — An 86-year-old Salem woman was injured over the weekend when her vehicle ran under the trailer of a semi-truck turning onto Interstate 57 from West Main in Salem.

According to Salem police, around 1:48 p.m. Friday, Stella Riggs apparently stepped on the accelerator of her car while stopped on the northbound I-57 off-ramp, causing her vehicle to run under the semi-trailer.

Riggs was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The driver of the semi, 58-year-old William Inskip of Springfield, was not injured.

Riggs was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device.
