MARION/JEFFERSON COUNTY — An attempted traffic stop over the weekend in Walnut Hill resulted in a brief vehicle pursuit before two people were ultimately arrested in Jefferson County.

A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly tried to stop a car driven by 43-year-old Matthew Bounds, of Centralia, after failing to signal a turn.

Bounds failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued on Walnut Hill Road, and onto Copple Road in Jefferson County where Bounds ultimately stopped.

He was arrested on an outstanding Marion County warrant for failure to appear on a charge of driving while license suspended.

His 34-year-old passenger, Nicole Pike of Tamaroa, was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine.

While searching the vehicle, deputies allegedly found meth, cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and a sawed-off shotgun with a serial number scratched off.

Both Bounds and Pike were taken to the Marion County Jail.
