Two West Frankfort Men Facing Theft, Burglary Charges After September Incident in Rural Benton

FRANKLIN COUNTY — Two West Frankfort men have been charged with burglary and felony theft after Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary, theft and trespassing on a building and property in rural Benton on Sept. 17.

Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says when a property owner arrived to check on the property where recent thefts had taken place, he saw 29-year-old Vincent S. Rankin and 18-year-old Seth M. Petkas taken items.

The property owner did not know Rankin and Petkas. The subjects fled the area in a pickup truck when confronted. The property owner was able to follow Rankin and Petkas and got a description of the truck including license plate information. The truck along with Rankin and Petkas were later located and arrested. The stolen property was also recovered.

Rankin and Petkas are being held on their charges in the Franklin County Jail.
