FRANKLIN COUNTY — A 23-year-old West Frankfort woman was involved in a hit and run property damage crash on Illinois 37 at North Marcum Branch Road in Franklin County early Friday morning.

Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says around 1:45 a.m., deputies found a downed power pole on the east side of Route 37 and a power line down across the road. The vehicle later found to be a 2010 Acura had fled the scene. It appeared the vehicle had been going eastbound on Marcum Branch Road and failed to stop at the intersection with Route 37, traveling across Route 37 and struck a power pole.

The Ewing-Northern Fire Department and Abbott EMS also responded to the scene. The vehicle involved left a leaking radiator trail that led south on Route 37 toward Benton. A deputy was able to follow the trail and located the vehicle several miles from the scene where it had become disabled.

The driver, Haley R. Elam, was charged with disobeying a stop sign, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
