Melba Ruth Jenkins, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 5:40 P.M. September 14, 2018 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born September 20, 1930 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late George Birdie and Nellie Grace (Beaty) Powell. Melba married Jack D. Jenkins on December 20, 1967 and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2002.

Melba is survived by her daughter, LoLetta Pasley and husband, David of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Amber Farmer and Darl Pasley, both of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, A.J. Farmer, KaLyn Farmer and Javin Pasley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Melba was preceded in death by her infant sister and brother, Jim Powell.

Melba worked for many years at Sears and Kmart before retirement. She was a member of the Crossroads Auxiliary Stitchers, where she helped make quilts for people in the area. She was also a Senior Saint in 2013. Melba’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow.
