JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 58-year-old Ina man is scheduled to be sentenced Monday afternoon in Jefferson County court on charges he sexually assaulted two underage girls.

Anthony R. Williams was convicted during a July bench trial but has filed a motion for a new trial in the case. The motion is scheduled to be heard in court Monday, as well.

Three days of trial were held the second week of June, delayed for two weeks, and the remainder was reset until July when the court ordered a transcript of the proceedings and advised it would take the defense motion under advisement.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Williams in January and he was charged in court with two Class 1 felony counts of criminal sexual assault of a family member, two Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a family member, and two Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13.

Court records say the alleged offenses took place in January of 2007 and then in August and October of 2016.

Williams has remained in the Jefferson County Jail since his January arrest, with bail set at $500,000.
