MARION COUNTY — Marion County prosecutors are again seeking the forfeiture of bond money for a 32-year-old Centralia man who failed to appear at his August jury trial for one of nearly 30 outstanding cases.

The jury found TJ Howard guilty in absentia of felony driving while license revoked. A no bond warrant was then issued for Howard, who had just months earlier been arrested on a $150,000 warrant for failure to appear on the numerous cases.

He had been located in California and after being returned to Illinois posted $15,000 cash to gain his release. He then failed to appear at his jury trial.

When Howard had previously failed to appear in court, most of nearly $65,000 in cash bond that had been posted for him was forfeited. That bond had been posted between August 2015 and May 2017, and was a combined total in the nearly 12 felony and DUI cases against Howard.

According to Marion County State’s Attorney Bill Milner, his office is again seeking forfeiture of Howard’s bond.

This time they will be requesting what was remaining from the last forfeiture, along with the $15,000 posted after his capture in California. A forfeiture hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

When he’s next captured Howard will be denied bond, as a no bond warrant has been issued for his arrest.
