JEFFERSON COUNTY — A fatal crash involving three semis happened Wednesday night at the I-64 Westbound Goshen Road Rest Area in Jefferson County.

According to Illinois State Police, one semi was entering the rest area at milepost 86 around 6:20 when it continued into the rest area and failed to stop. It struck a tree and then another semi which was parked driven by 62-year-old Roosevelt Brown of St. Louis.

Brown’s semi was pushed into another semi driven by 48-year-old David Smith of El Paso, Texas which was also parked.

The driver of the semi that caused the accident was fatally injured. The driver’s name is not being released until family members are notified. Brown was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon with non-life threatening injuries. Smith was not injured.

No charges were filed.
