JACKSON COUNTY — A Carbondale man was sentenced Monday in Jackson County Court to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to an arson charge.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr says 60-year-old Valveeno Kendrick will also serve three years of mandatory supervised released after he is released from prison.

Carr says on June 2 of this year, witnesses saw Kendrick use a lighter to ignite a piece of cardboard and then placed the cardboard near the door of a home on Monroe Street in Carbondale. The home sustained damage due to the fire.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police and Fire Departments.
