JACKSON COUNTY — A Jackson County Grand Jury Monday returned a five-count indictment charging a Carbondale man with the Feb. 15, 2018 shooting death of 35-year-old Brandon L. Brooks of Carbondale in the 400 block of East Mill Street.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr says the indictment charges 24-year-old Judious M. Kizeart with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of armed robbery – a Class X felony, one count of robbery – a Class 2 felony and one count of criminal cannabis conspiracy – a Class 3 felony.

Carr says if Kizeart is convicted of first-degree murder, he will face a sentencing range of 20 to 60 years in prison. He also faces six to 30 years in prison for armed robbery. Neither charge is eligible for probation. Kizeart could also get seven years in prison for robbery and five years in prison for criminal cannabis conspiracy.

Kizeart was arrested on these charges last Thursday. He is currently in the St. Louis County Jail with bond set at $2 million. His first appearance in Jackson County has not been scheduled.

The case is being investigated by the Carbondale Police Department.
