JACKSON COUNTY — An October 15 jury trial was confirmed Tuesday in Jackson County for a 55-year-old Desoto woman accused of hiring her lover to kill her husband.

Prosecutors claim Carmen Stonemark ordered a hit on her husband because she feared he would leave her out of his will.

For nearly five months, no one knew what happened to 76-year-old Frank Stonemark, who went missing the night of Oct. 29, 2017.

Then in March, James Michael Deese told authorities that he’d strangled Frank Stonemark in the kitchen of Stonemark’s home in DeSoto, at the request of Carmen Stonemark.

Deese told investigators that after he killed Frank, Carmen helped him load the body into Frank’s van and drove it to another location in rural Jackson County where they hid it until coming back later, dismembering the body and burning it in barrels.

Deese was reportedly having an affair with Carmen Stonemark. Police say she had at least one other affair and asked that man to kill her husband as well.

Deese pleaded guilty in July and will be sentenced Wednesday morning.
