A 35-year-old Kinmundy man is in the Marion County Jail after being arrested on multiple charges including cruelty to animals for allegedly stabbing two dogs with a hunting knife.

Clifford G. Stroup was having a disagreement with a neighbor when he reportedly left the neighbor’s home only to return later with a long blade knife.

Stroup allegedly threatened the neighbor with the knife, only to stab the two dogs as they walked up to him during the disagreement with the neighbor.

One of the dogs had emergency surgery early Saturday morning to stop its bleeding, while the other dog had less severe injuries.

Stroup was ultimately arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, aggravated assault, and disorderly conduct.

The 35-year-old Stroup has a history of arrests for battery and domestic violence dating back to 2002 when he was charged with felony aggravated battery.

The charge was ultimately dismissed, but he was sentenced in 2004 to four years in prison on a Class 3 felony charge of aggravated battery that had been reduced from a Class X felony charge of home invasion causing bodily injury.

Stroup remains in jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
