ILLINOIS (RFD) — Some Illinois farmers have seen the price of soybeans drop by two dollars a bushel since imposition of import tariffs on some goods coming into the United States in and retaliation by China and other countries throughout the summer. They want to see the Trump administration demonstrate the ability to close on new trade deals with more countries. Megan Dwyer and her family farm near Coal Valley in Henry County;

Many Illinois farmers also want to see a successful conclusion to a new North American Free Trade Agreement that includes Mexico and Canada. And they want to see a resolution to the tariff war with China, which has bought huge amounts of Illinois soybeans in the past. Jack McCormick farms in Randolph County;

McCormick, Dwyer and some other farmers say successful negotiation of trade deals is especially important on the eve of what could be another huge Illinois harvest. In its latest crop report issued last month, U-S-D-A says Illinois farmers will harvest a record-sized Illinois soybean and corn crops.
