WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 3-vehicle accident was reported in Washington County Friday afternoon.

Preliminary information from the Illinois State Police Department says that a Chrysler, driven by 41-year-old Chrystal Manning of DuQuoin stopped at the intersection of US Highway 51 and DuBois Blacktop Road, waiting on southbound 51 to make a left turn.  A Chevrolet, driven by 20-year-old Hallie Scott of Irvington, was following 22-year-old Christian Vacker of Kincaid, Illinois. Vacker became distracted with his stereo system and was following the Chrysler too closely and was unable to react properly and veered off the roadway to the right to avoid from crashing.  Scott then crashed into Manning’s vehicle.

The crash resulted in heavy damage to both vehicles, and Vacker’s vehicle was left undamaged.  Vacker was cited for following too closely, Scott suffered minor injuries and Manning has non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

At least one lane of US 51 remained opened throughout the incident.
