SALINE COUNTY — The Saline County Board has called a special meeting for tonight at 5 to appoint a new sheriff to replace Sheriff Keith Brown, who resigned Monday.

According to the Southern Illinoisan, Brown was elected in 2006 replacing Sheriff Ed Miller. Brown, whose law enforcement career spans over 30 years, started as a jailer in Saline County before working for the Illinois State Police. Brown did not seek re-election in this year’s primary.

Two people are running for the sheriff’s office in the November election. They are Democrat Ken Clore and Republican J. “Whipper” Johnson.
