EFFINGHAM COUNTY — A crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 57 resulted in five children one vehicle being injured, with one being airlifted from the scene to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.

According to Illinois State Police, around 4:12 Sunday morning a car driven by 28-year-old Angelia W. Obasad, of  Arkansas was traveling north on I-57 at a slow rate of speed just  north of Edgewood when a semi driven by 55-year-old Rocky D. Rash, of Missouri struck the car from behind.

Obasad had five children in the car with her and all were injured. One child was flown from the scene by Air Evac to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Obasad and the other children were all taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.

Rash was not injured but was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Obasad was charged with driving while license is suspended, violating the minimum speed requirements, and failure to properly secure child under 8 in a child restraint system.
