ST. CLAIR COUNTY — A 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man reportedly died following a single vehicle crash over the weekend on Interstate 64 at the truck weigh station near Scott Air Force Base.

According to the Illinois State Police, the Mt. Vernon man was a passenger in a car that ran into a light pole that nearly cut the car in half. The name of the victim has not yet been released.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old Woodlawn resident, was taken to a St. Louis Hospital in serious condition.
