Plans To Override Gov Veto on Smoking Bill

SPRINGFIELD (RFD) — This year Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed a bill that would up the legal age to buy tobacco to 21. Now a group of lawmakers wants to override him. Senate President John Cullerton says the law would keep people from starting to smoke and it would save lives.

It’s not clear if the votes are there to override Rauner’s veto. The Governor says in his defense of nixing the bill that 18 year olds can make adult decision and it would drive more economic activity outside of the state.
