WASHINGTON COUNTY — Area law enforcement agencies were involved in a high-speed pursuit Wednesday morning on Interstate 64 that started in Washington County and ended across the state line in Indiana.

Illinois State Police are the lead agency on the incident and have not yet released any information.

However, unofficial reports indicate that at 9:18 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office started notifying deputies of a missing/endangered female in a red Chevy Cruz with an abusive male.

The vehicle was reportedly traveling eastbound on I-64 from Washington County with Nashville police pursuing the vehicle at speeds exceeding 100 mph at the 57 mile marker.

As the car was entering Jefferson County, ISP reported speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

As the pursuit reached Wayne County law enforcement temporarily lost sight of the suspect vehicle, but a visual was regained around White County.

Gibson County, Indiana deputies took over the pursuit as it crossed the state line but were advised to slow their pursuit as rain showers had moved in to the area.

The vehicle was ultimately stopped in Gibson County where two people were taken into custody.
