MT. VERNON — After years of being closed, the 7th Street rail crossing on Mt. Vernon’s east side reopened Wednesday morning.

Mt. Vernon City Councilman Jim Rippy has been vocal about getting the crossing reopened to the public. He says this opens up Mt. Vernon’s east side again.

Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis says it took a lot of work from many people to reopen the 7th Street crossing.

The reopening was marked with a ribbon cutting attended by city, business, and railroad officials.
