SALINE COUNTY — A Harrisburg man was recently sentenced in Saline County Circuit Court to seven years in state prison on methamphetamine possession charges.

Saline County State’s Attorney Jayson Clark says 36-year-old Rodney S. Stewart entered a plea of guilty to a Class 3 felony charge of methamphetamine possession. Besides Stewart’s sentence, he will serve one year of mandatory supervised release.

Clark says Class 3 felonies generally carry a possible sentence of two to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Because of Stewart’s criminal record, he was eligible for and received an extended term sentence.

The charge against Stewart arose out of an incident in which Stewart was found in possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine by officers of the Harrisburg Police Department.

Sgt. Nathan Moore of the Harrisburg Police Department led the investigation of Stewart’s case. Assistant State’s Attorney Jason Olson handled the successful prosecution of Stewart.
