With the first major winter storm of the year approaching, Franklin County Emergency Management Director Ryan Buckingham says travel may become hazardous around the area. He says you should have your basic emergency preparedness kit ready to go if you have to be out on the roads.
If you have to travel, you should also reduce your speed on the snow and ice and avoid anything distracting like cell phones and text messages.
Buckingham also says it’s a good idea to tell someone where you are going and how you plan to get there if you have to be out.
Giving the snow plows plenty of room to work so they can clear the roads of snow and ice in order to make travel conditions better is a good suggestion from the FCMA.
The agency offers you a way to stay informed during the storm or any emergency anytime says Buckingham.
