Salem police have arrested a 69-year-old Salem man for the attempted murder of his wife by injecting her with an overdose of her medication.

According to reports, around 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Charles Wood called 911 and reported that he had attempted to kill his wife by giving her an overdose of insulin.

The wife was taken by ambulance to Salem Township Hospital where she remains for observation.

Wood reportedly wanted to end his wife’s suffering as she apparently suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and is in generally poor health.

Wood remains in the Marion County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
