Gary Ray Koenegstein, 70, of Dix, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Fireside House in Centralia.

He was born in Centralia on Sept. 29, 1947, the son of Kenneth E. and Marguerite (Treloggen) Koenegstein. On Dec. 26, 1968, in Carlyle, he married Myrna Kay Powless, and she survives in Dix.

Gary was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Mt. Vernon and  worked for Illinois Central Railroad as a Brakeman. He was also a farmer and enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, western shows and working with farm animals .

In addition to his wife, Myrna; he is survived by four children, Chris Burke and husband Brent of Winter Park, FL, Rob Koenegstein of Salem, Gina Woodward and husband Wayne of Mt. Erie, and Ginger Perry and husband Frankie of Centralia; six grandchildren , Landon, Levi, and Luke Woodward, Clayton and Micah Koenegstein and Seth Pryor; and three brothers, David Koenegstein and wife Nancy of Centralia, Kelley Koenegstein of Iuka, and Vance Koenegstein and wife Nana of Dix.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Koenegstein; and a sister Jeanette Koenegstein.

Funeral services for Mr. Koenegstein will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Pastor Steve Edwards and Greg Wright officiating.  Burial will follow at Zion Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, at the funeral home.  Memorial gifts may be made to the Calvary United Pentecostal Church, and will be accepted at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
