A 33-year-old Vandalia woman has been charged in Fayette County Court with bringing contraband into the jail.

According to the Fayette County State’s Attorney’s Office, Erica Chambers has been charged with Class 1 felony bringing contraband into a jail, after she allegedly was found with a hypodermic syringe in the Fayette County Jail.

Chambers was scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Thursday morning, but due to her behavior in court and her refusal to answer the Court’s questions, she was taken back to the jail, where she remains with bail set at $35,000.

She will be brought back over to the courthouse Friday morning to be advised of the charges against her and her bond rights.
