A 22-year-old Florida woman was killed Saturday morning when she was struck by a semi-truck while she was standing outside her vehicle on Interstate 57 south of Mt. Vernon.

Amanda Been, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, had earlier been involved in a property damage only crash and she, along with the other occupants of a Ford Expedition had exited the vehicle.

According to the Illinois State Police, while Beem was standing on northbound I-57, Beem was struck by a semi-truck driven by 71-year-old Robert Miller, of Effingham.

A juvenile passenger of the Expedition, also of Port St. Lucie, received major injuries in the incident and was transported by ambulance to a regional hospital. Two other Port St. Lucie residents who were traveling in the Expedition were uninjured.

The crash, which occurred around 4:16 a.m. Saturday morning resulted in northbound traffic on the interstate being diverted for about five and a half hours for crash investigation and scene cleanup.
