The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two men in connection with an early Sunday morning incident southwest of Ramsey that led to a reported manhunt in the area for the subjects.

Both 41-year-old James Longwell, of Vandalia, and 47-year-old William Nordyke, of Shobonier, are being held in the Fayette County Jail on charges of burglary.

According to authorities, sheriff’s deputies began searching for two men following a report early Sunday of an alleged robbery.

The public was alerted to the search of two white males in their 40s to early 50s, dressed in camouflage and armed with a handgun, and allegedly running from the scene into the wooded areas southwest of Ramsey. The public was advised that if they see the men to not give them a ride and to instead call the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office or 911.

Just before noon the sheriff’s office reported the two men had been found and were in custody.

Longwell has a history of burglaries. In 1996 and 1997 he was charged and convicted in separate felony burglary cases and was ultimately sentenced to 3-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

More recently Longwell was convicted in 2015 of felony criminal trespass to a residence while a person present. He was sentenced in that case to 2-years probation, which ended in November 2017.

Both men remain in the Fayette County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
