A 38-year-old Centralia man was sentenced in Marion County Court Thursday to 2-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty to felony battery for an incident that sent a woman to the hospital with facial injuries.
Brian Hartnell was given credit for time served since his September arrest. According to Centralia police, Hartnell was arrested after a woman jumped from his moving van at Walnut and 16th Street after she spotted a Centralia police officer on patrol.

The woman was bleeding from the face and told the officer that Hartnell had punched her in the face multiple times, choked her, and threatened to kill her.

She had been walking to Wamac and accepted a ride from Hartnell but he became angry when she wouldn’t help unload a van and trailer.

This was the third felony case filed this year against Hartnell in Marion County Court. In June he was charged with Class 2 felony burglary but that case was recently dismissed.

In exchange for his guilty plea Thursday, separate 2017 cases charging Hartnell with felony criminal damage to property and misdemeanor battery, were dismissed, as well.

In addition to the two-year prison sentence, Hartnell will have to serve 1-year mandatory supervised release when he completes his prison term.
